Ivica Olic was born in 1979 on the day of September 14. He grew up in a village near Slavonski Bod, Croatia, called Davor. It was here that Ivica Olic began playing soccer. Little did he know that he would one day become a professional soccer player! The local club he played for in 1996 was where he began his journey, but there would be several more stops on the road before he would become a professional.
He had two very good seasons at this local club, and was soon picked up by Hertha Berlin. Although this at first seemed like a huge step up for Ivica, he did not see much play playing for Hertha Berlin, and he instead returned back to his former club the following year. Ivica Olic was unique because he had vertical runs that were considered unstoppable, and because his technique was amazing at the same time. The combination of skill and power exhibited by him made fans sure that he would become a major leaguer.
German football was a bit much for the youngster to deal with, which is perhaps why, after ten months and only two league games, he was loaned back to his home club in Marsonia. He was later transferred back semi-permanently, though he would not be there for long this time. It was at this point where Olic struck a deal with Marsonia’s president, Drago Maric. Olic guaranteed Maric a share in any transfers he would make in the future in exchange for decent pay until he could be transferred abroad. This got his career off the ground, which has exploded in recent years.
Among the many achievements of Ivica Olic, he has had three league titles with three different clubs that he obtained in less than a year and a half, and topped the scorers charts on two occasions as he was doing it! It was plain to everyone that Ivica Olic was destined for soccer playing greatness, and he was showing it!
NK Zagreb, who got Olic back in 2001, ran away with the league championship that year, led by Olic and with the help of Antonio Franja and Kruno Loverek. The team beat out Hajduk Split and Dinamo Zagreb to win their first major league trophy in almost 90 years! As Olic led his team to the Croatian championships in 2002, he was the top scorer of the season with 21 goals. It was a fact… Ivica Olic had arrived, and was better than ever! After playing for this club, Ivica went to Moscow and helped his team win the league and got to put another trophy into his cabinet. In ten games, he scored seven times, which was a fantastic performance!
As far as teams that Olic has played with goes, the list includes clubs like NK Marsonia, Hertha BSC, NK Zagreb, Dinamo Zagreb, CSKA Moscow, Hamburger SV and Bayern Munich. He also plays for Croatia national team and will unfortunately miss soccer world cup this year (2010).
